Danny Rohl has transformed Sheffield Wednesday since taking charge of the club in October 2023.

Winless in their first 10 league games under former manager Xisco Munoz, Rohl represented a risk when he arrived, with the Owls job his first senior managerial role after being an assistant for a number of years.

The German, though, has gone a long way to proving his credentials, securing Wednesday's safety on the final day of the Championship season against Sunderland.

Rohl's work in transforming Wednesday hasn't gone unnoticed, though, and he is steadily attracting interest from across England.

Keeping hold of Rohl will be the most important piece of business Wednesday do all summer, and his presence and buy-in could prove crucial in securing the futures of first-team players like Josh Windass.

Windass is out of contract in the summer and is already being eyed up by a host of clubs after scoring a number of key goals en route to Wednesday staying up.

Wednesday, whilst able to offer Championship football next season, will be hoping to push on under Rohl and avoid another relegation battle.

This level of ambition could yet persuade Windass to pen a new deal, but will likely be dependant on whether Rohl stays next season.

Josh Windass has proven his Sheffield Wednesday worth despite injuries

Windass would have hoped to play a more pivotal role for Wednesday this season after guiding the club to promotion from League One.

The talismanic forward scored the dramatic late winner in the play-off final last year against Barnsley to secure their place in the Championship, but he has struggled with injuries this season in what isn't exactly a new development in his career.

The former Rangers man played just 25 times for Wednesday as they miraculously beat the drop, but he returned from a lengthy injury to score in Wednesday's final three games of the season, helping them avoid relegation on the final day.

Windass has been offered a new deal in order to fend off interest from newly-promoted Derby County, who, along with Stoke City, Hull and West Bromwich Albion, have been touted with a move for the Englishman, but whether Windass commits his future to the club will likely depend on Rohl's movements.

A trusted member of Rohl's team when fit, securing Windass' long-term future would represent good business for the club, especially if they're unable to bring back loanee Ian Poveda on a permanent deal.

Danny Rohl set to continue Sheffield Wednesday contract talks after returning from holiday

Rohl has taken a well-earned break after guiding Wednesday to safety, and it's reported that upon his return, he will continue talks over a new contract.

The 35-year-old's future has been the topic of discussion in recent weeks in light of Hull City sacking Liam Rosenior after failing to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Hull are one of a host of clubs reportedly interested in Rohl, but while they look set to be appointing Tim Walter instead, he won't be short of suitors should he decide to leave Wednesday.

Sunderland are another that have been keeping tabs on Rohl, with iNews reporting in March that he was of interest to the Black Cats, but a £5 million release clause that has emerged that would need to be paid to take away the talented coach from Hillsborough is likely going to be a stumbling block.

Dejphon Chansiri - a controversial figure at Wednesday - needs to be careful not to repeat the mistakes of last summer when contract talks broke down with then-manager Darren Moore.

Of course, there's no guarantee that Moore would have kept the Owls in the Championship, and whilst they seem to have lucked out with the eventual appointment of Rohl, Chansiri must try and give the German what he wants, or else he risks losing not only him, but Windass too.
