Kai Havertz has reportedly informed Bayer Leverkusen of his desire to leave the club this summer with the midfielder keen on a move to Chelsea.

Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have been credited with an interest in the Germany international, though Chelsea have emerged as frontrunners in recent weeks as the club continue their ambitious summer of recruitment.

Leverkusen’s failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League has persuaded Havertz his future lies away from the Bundesliga side and the attacking midfielder is believed to have been impressed by Chelsea’s progress this season and summer spending.

According to German publication Kicker, Havertz is keen on the prospect of playing alongside Germany teammate Timo Werner at Stamford Bridge next season, and views the west London side as an attractive destination.

Leverkusen are prepared to allow the 21-year-old to leave this summer but are keen to keep the highly-rated talent until the end of their season, with the club remaining in contention for the Europa League.

Chelsea have significant resources this summer despite the financial uncertainty amid the coronavirus pandemic and have already secured the signings of Werner and playmaker Hakim Ziyech from Ajax.
