“Enquiries made for” – David Ornstein shares major update as Chelsea contemplate another shock move | OneFootball

Chelsea are considering signing a new striker before the end of the window and have made enquiries about Sporting Lisbon’s Conrad Harder according to David Ornstein.

The Blues were hit by the news on Saturday that Liam Delap is expected to miss up to eight weeks with a hamstring injury sustained in the win against Fulham.

Chelsea acted fast and decided to order Nicolas Jackson to return, despite the 24-year-old being in Munich to finalise his proposed loan move.

Jackson is currently still in Munich and is understood to be unhappy with the situation, which is understandable given the situation.

However, the Senegalese is contracted to Chelsea, and whilst nothing is signed with Bayern, unless they decide to make the deal permanent Jackson will have little choice but to return to Stamford Bridge.

However, if a permanent offer does come in at this late stage Chelsea are making alternative plans, and Ornstein has provided an update.

He took to X.com and said:

“EXCL: Chelsea considering signing striker before deadline.

“#CFC not allowing Nicolas Jackson loan but permanent possible.

“Lack of loan replacements means permanents being explored – enquiries made for Conrad Harder of #SportingCP & others @TheAthleticFC.”

Harder played back-up to Viktor Gyokeres at Sporting Lisbon last season, and scored five goals and registered five assists in 28 league appearances.

The 20-year-old clearly fits Chelsea’s recruitment model but is very raw, and it’s thought he’s very close to joining German side RB Leipzig.

The Denmark under-21 international clearly has plenty of potential, and Chelsea have previously been linked with Harder.

However, Chelsea are in a difficult position at this late stage of the window, as the number of quality players available is very small.
