Speculation has been rife in recent weeks regarding Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United, and Gareth Southgate’s name has been linked to the post at Old Trafford should it become available. The England manager has been reported as someone INEOS like, and some have even suggested that he heads the list of potential coaches the new owners have an eye on for their next manager, if Erik ten Hag leaves.

Another manager linked to the job is Graham Potter, and the former Brighton manager is said to have turned down an approach from Dutch club Ajax, who are also interested in potentially bringing Erik ten Hag back should he leave Manchester United this summer.

Southgate ‘Not Liked’ By Some At United

As reported by UtdDistrict, Gareth Southgate is not liked by some internally at Manchester United, despite reports stating that he is on the list of potential new managers at the club. Southgate will lead England to Euro 2024 this summer, but there is a growing belief that it will be his last major tournament with the nation. Southgate has previously brought the Three Lions to a Euro final, and a World Cup semi-final.

The report states that Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is liked by those within Manchester United, and if there is to be a managerial change, the Italian is much more likely to be appointed than Southgate. INEOS are likely to work in tandem with Omar Berrada, the new CEO at the club, to make a managerial change if it does come down to Erik ten Hag leaving the club.

Fabrizio Romano has today stated that INEOS are expected to stick with the Dutch manager until next season, but if results continue to be poor there are no guarantees a change will not be made. United are currently sixth in the table, 11 points behind Tottenham Hotspur in the coveted fourth place, which would lead to Champions League football.

Erik ten Hag remains in active conversations with INEOS in regards to recruitment leading into the summer window, with links to Everton’s Amadou Onana and Jarrad Branthwaite at the forefront in the media at the moment.
