The board of FC Barcelona scheduled an emergency meeting after the team’s heavy defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich. The meeting included president Joan Laporta, vice president Rafa Yuste and the football director Mateu Alemany.

The topic of discussion was the team’s poor performance once again in a crucial game, and the sheet way in which Barcelona were outplayed.

The fact that the team is going through a severe injury crisis was taken into account, so was the loss of key players in the transfer window. Ansu Fati, Sergio Aguero, and Martin Braithwaite were all injured for the clash, and thereby unavailable.

This point was repeated numerous times by Koeman himself in the post-match press conference. The Dutchman was adamant that expecting a positive result in the first place was impractical given the situation in the club.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the board members decided to maintain their confidence in the manager for longer following the meeting. They acknowledged the fact that the season was still in its early stages and that it was too early to rush into any decisions.

Moreover, they thought it would be hasty to sack the manager when he did not have the entire squad at his disposal. The general consensus was to wait till the key injured players are back and look for visible signs of improvement, especially considering the number of young players within the team.

The entire squad is expected to be available in time for the Clasico. That said, it would be the right time to evaluate the progress and make any decisions regarding Koeman’s future.
