Borussia Dortmund are up to fifth in the Bundesliga after a victory over struggling Hertha BSC on Saturday.
Scorers: Brandt 54′, Moukoko 89′
Marco Reus clipped the top of the crossbar with a free-kick and Jude Bellingham forced Hertha goalkeeper Rune Jarstein into a good save, but neither side was able to break the deadlock in the first half.
But early in the second half, Dortmund did make the breakthrough when Julian Brandt rattled a shot past Jarstein from 30 yards out.
The ball moved in the air on its way towards goal, but the goalkeeper should have done much better if the truth be told.
BVB then lost Mats Hummels to what looked like a muscle injury, before Mahmoud Dahoud’s cross deflected off Vladimír Darida and touched the bar on its way over.
Jarstein then redeemed himself somewhat by making a good save to keep out Emre Can’s header, before Hertha were reduced to 10 men when Darida was shown a straight red card for a nasty tackle on Reus.
Reus had to go off as a result of the challenge, and was replaced by Youssoufa Moukoko, and the substitute made it 2-0 in the dying minutes with his first ever goal at the Westfalenstadion.
The result leaves Hertha hovering dangerously above the relegation zone and level on 21 points with 16th place Mainz.
