Bundesliga Predictions | Round 31

Article image:Bundesliga Predictions | Round 31

In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?

Manu’s Game of the Week: Bayer Leverkusen vs Stuttgart

My match of the week is Leverkusen against Stuttgart. Although Stuttgart are now somewhat adrift of Bayern after their 2-1 surprise loss to Werder last week, I maintain that the Die Schwaben are Germany’s second best club team behind Leverkusen. I was able to catch the return leg of this fixture in Stuttgart in December and it was one of the best Bundesliga games this season. The Pokal battle between the two was also epic. With that in mind, I think this is going to be a fantastic game to watch that Leverkusen are probably going to win in the 98th minute.

Manu’s Predictions:

  • Bochum 0-2 Hoffenheim;
  • Bayern Munich 3-1 Eintracht Frankfurt;
  • RB Leipzig 2-1 Borussia Dortmund;
  • Freiburg 1-1 Wolfsburg;
  • Augsburg 2-1 Werder Bremen;
  • Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 Stuttgart;
  • Gladbach 1-1 Union Berlin;
  • Mainz 1-0 Köln;
  • Darmstadt 0-2 Heidenheim.

Stefan’s Game of the Week: RB Leipzig vs Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund’s trip to RB Leipzig really speaks for itself as a fixture packed full of talented players, but there’s also an intriguing narrative weaved into it too. Marco Rose’s side will be determined to not only finish fourth but also above a Dortmund side that have somehow managed to turn their season around with European heroics. After knocking out Atletico Madrid in the Champions League and wrestling a point off of Bayer Leverkusen, Edin Terzic’s team may be hoping to cause another upset in Saxony, but Leipzig’s home form has been exceptional recently and, perhaps most importantly, they have had a habit of stepping up in the big games in the Bundesliga this season. As such, I think the home side may sneak this one.

Stefan’s Predictions:

  • Bochum 1-2 Hoffenheim;
  • Bayern Munich 2-1 Eintracht Frankfurt;
  • RB Leipzig 3-2 Borussia Dortmund;
  • Freiburg 1-1 Wolfsburg;
  • Augsburg 2-1 Werder Bremen;
  • Bayer Leverkusen 3-2 Stuttgart;
  • Gladbach 0-0 Union Berlin;
  • Mainz 2-0 Koln;
  • Darmstadt 1-2 Heidenheim

Scores after MD30: Manu – 184, Stefan – 198
