With just one month to go until the start of the Ligue 1 season, an agreement for the sale of the broadcasting rights for the upcoming cycle has finally been reached.

The LFP initially wanted to receive a €1bn fee for the upcoming cycle (2024-2029), however, when no bids were received at auction, it became quickly evident that this ambitious figure would not be hit. One-on-one talks with the individual broadcasters have been held for months, without an agreement being reached.

However, with time of the essence, Ligue 1 presidents met on Sunday in order to study two concrete offers: a joint bid from DAZN and beIN Sports and another, a 100% LFP channel. After a tense meeting, presidents opted for the former.

DAZN will pay €400m per season for eight out of the nine games in each round, whilst Qatari-Franco broadcaster beIN Sports will take the headline fixture each week, or the second biggest game every other round for €100m. Whilst beIN Sports are tied in until 2029, there will be negotiations surrounding an exit clause after two or three seasons, as per L’Équipe. Whilst some minor details need to be ratified, the deal itself has been approved by the LFP.
