West Ham United have started the 2025-26 Premier League campaign on a disappointing note, losing their opening two games woefully.
West Ham lost 3-0 to newly-promoted Sunderland in the opening game of the season before suffering a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea in their first game at the London Stadium.
The Hammers were dumped out of the Carabao Cup last night by Wolverhampton Wanderers in the second round, and the finger-pointing has already begun behind the scenes.
West Ham co-owner David Sullivan has been keen to lay the blame for the recent struggles at the door of those in the dugout, according to the Daily Mail.
The Hammers chairman believes they are at fault for failing to get the most out of the players at their disposal.
They have signed French centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo permanently and also added El Hadji Malick Diouf and Kyle Walker-Peters to their defence.
English striker Callum Wilson was brought in for free after he left Newcastle United, while Danish goalkeeper Mads Hermansen joined from Leicester City.
West Ham have failed to impress at both ends of the pitch, but Potter’s job is safe for now as Sullivan does not like to sack managers mid-season if he can help it.
They are already looking to change goalies after Hermansen’s shaky start to his Hammers career.
A move for his Botafogo counterpart John Victor has been reignited after Potter opted for the Dane despite the club reaching an agreement in principle with the Brazilian.
West Ham are now looking to secure the services of the South American on loan, but they could do with new defenders too after shipping three goals from corners against Chelsea.
They are back in Premier League action on Sunday with a trip to City Ground to face Nottingham Forest, and heading into the international break with a result will be relieving.
