Conte experiment does not pay off: Napoli ‘lack bite’ in Lazio loss

Antonio Conte and Napoli were met with widespread criticism after their 1-0 loss to Lazio in Serie A on Sunday, which came just days after another loss against the Biancocelesti in the Coppa Italia, and now the Partenopei have lost the lead of the league table and are also out of the cup as well.

Conte named two completely different starting line-ups for the two games against Lazio. The first team regulars, including Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Scott McTominay, Stanislav Lobotka and Alessandro Buongiorno were rested in the Coppa Italia, but were brought back in for the Serie A game.

Conte and Napoli criticised after double Lazio loss

The Partenopei were not able to claim a positive result in either game, though.

Italian outlet Tuttosport claimed that Napoli looked positive in terms of their attacking play in the first half of their most recent game against Lazio, but also believe that they regressed in the second half.

Il Corriere dello Sport, meanwhile, wrote that Napoli ‘lacked bite’ in their 1-0 loss to Lazio on Sunday.

With no Champions League football, and as of last week, no forthcoming Coppa Italia engagements either, Napoli on ly have Serie A matches to prepare for for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.

They will next be in action against Udinese in the league on Saturday, kicking off at 17.00 GMT.
