Gustav Isaksen emerged as the main hero for Lazio on Sunday night, scoring a stunning winner to complete the double over Napoli, having eliminated them from the Coppa Italia only three days earlier.

The Background

Tijjani Noslin picked up the Dane with a wonderful assist that sliced the Partenopei backline. Isaksen then found himself one-on-one with Mathias Olivera, and managed to create just enough space with some neat dribbling before launching a left-footed shot towards the far post. The slight deflection was enough to beat the outstretched Alex Meret.

Gustav Isaksen Credits Marco Baroni for Lazio Winner

In his post-match interview with DAZN (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the 23-year-old admitted this might have been his best display since joining the Italian capital side, while crediting his manager Marco Baroni for the goal.

My Best performance? Perhaps it is. It’s important to score but the three points were more significant, especially after the defeat in Parma. I’m very happy for the goal and the points. Every day, Baroni tells me that I have to go one-on-one so that’s how I have to play. We have to be brave, shoot on goal. Today it went well and I’m very happy. I had scored many goals like this in Denmark, but I wanted to do it in Lazio colors. It’s more difficult here but I feel everyone’s confidence . If I can do it against Napoli, then I can replicate it against any other team.

Eyes on Ajax

Isaksen also lauded the Lazio supporters who were prevented from taking the trip to Napoli, while revealing his excitement ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash against Ajax in Amsterdam.

It was fantastic, Lazio fans are the best, what can I say? I’m sorry they couldn’t come here, and they won’t be able to travel with us to Amsterdam too. Now we have to think about Ajax and try to win there. It will be a very important match for us. They are a very strong team, I know them well, we have to be ready because it is a very difficult stadium packed with their supporters.
