CHAN 2024 – Group A: Morocco does not underestimate the Harambee Stars
This Sunday at the Moi International Stadium in Kasarani, Kenya faces Morocco in a Group A showdown at CHAN 2024.
Unbeaten after two matches, the Harambee Stars have surprised many by defeating DR Congo and holding out against Angola, despite playing a long stretch with ten men. Confidence is running high. Morocco, the two-time champions, arrive with a perfect record (a 2-0 win over Angola) and the status of favorites. But coach Tarik Sektioui is not underestimating his opponent:
Our main objective is to get past the group stage, and that means winning against Kenya. We'll approach the match against the hosts with the same determination and drive to claim all three points.
The Moroccan manager knows he must be wary of Kenya's strong momentum, unbeaten after two games and backed by their home crowd:
Kenya have played well since the start; this will be a tough match. We have to give our all for 90 minutes to achieve a positive result.
On the other side, Kenya head coach Benni McCarthy is preparing for a fierce contest:
Morocco are a strong and well-organized team, one of the best not just in our group but in the whole tournament. We've shown resilience and character in our first two matches, and I hope we can do the same against Morocco.
