Celtic, Wolves and Ipswich Town are among the clubs keeping tabs on QPR’s Jake Clarke-Salter after his impressive season for the Championship side.

Jake Clarke-Salter’s career so far

The 26-year-old came through the ranks at Chelsea, but, like so many at Stamford Bridge, he had to go out on loan, with the defender having spells at Sunderland, Vitesse and Birmingham City among others.

Clarke-Salter was highly-rated by the Blues, and he did make three appearances for them, as well as representing England at various youth levels up to U21.

However, he left Chelsea in 2022 in search of a regular home, with the left-footer making the short move across the capital to QPR.

But, Clarke-Salter would endure a tough first year with the R’s, as injuries restricted him to just 16 appearances.

Thankfully, those injury issues haven’t hindered Clarke-Salter this season though, as he has featured 29 times in the Championship.

And, generally, he has impressed, with the defender improving like most of his teammates since Marti Cifuentes arrived at the club, and that defensive stability has been key to the side pushing up the table and away from the relegation zone.

It appears that form has caught the attention of clubs, as The Sun revealed that a host of sides in England and Scotland are keeping tabs on Clarke-Salter ahead of the summer window.

Crystal Palace, Burnley and Wolves are keeping tabs on in-form QPR centre-back Jake Clarke-Salter. The defender has also attracted interest from Celtic and Ipswich who have monitored his progress at Loftus Road in recent weeks.”

There will be no panic for the R’s though, as Clarke-Salter is under contract with the club until the summer of 2026, so they won’t be under pressure to cash in on him this summer.

QPR’s summer plans

Of course, that doesn’t mean that Clarke-Salter will stay at the club, and the reality is that many Championship clubs will have to consider offers for their players if a Premier League club comes calling.

As well as that, if the player pushes for a move, it can change the dynamics, and Clarke-Salter may want to test himself at the highest level.

But, QPR will feel they are a club on the rise now with the way that Cifuentes has transformed the mood, so they will be looking to kick-on in the summer, and that will be about trying to improve the squad and retaining the key men.

Clearly, Clarke-Salter falls into that category when you look at how he has performed alongside Steve Cook in central defence, so QPR won’t want to break that up.

You can be sure that Cifuentes will want more backing in the summer if it’s possible, as he is an ambitious coach who has shown he can build a successful team at this level.

Having said that, his only focus right now will be on making sure the team stay up, and they are realistically only one or two wins from securing their safety, which would be some achievement when you consider where they were a matter of months ago.
