“Bizarre situation” around winger’s £20m transfer has no clear answers says top journalist

It was a week ago that the unexpected news about Julio Enciso’s move to Chelsea/Strasbourg broke.

Despite not having had any build up in terms of rumours, it suddenly seemed that the Brighton winger would be heading to BlueCo – although it was never quite clear to which team, adding more to the mystery. Fabrizio Romano and other sources contradicted each other on what the plan would be: was it a transfer to Strasbourg with a guaranteed move to Chelsea next year? A move to Chelsea followed by a loan to Strasbourg? A transfer to Strasbourg with just the vague potential of a sideways move to Chelsea should all go well?

It was never very clear, and things have got even muddier.

Chelsea’s push to sign winger collapses in mystery circumstances

The push to sign Enciso seemed to be driven by Sam Jewell, one of our recruitment chiefs who had played a major role in taking the Paraguayan striker to Brighton in the first place, and one who clearly still has strong belief in his ability.

Well, all that debate could soon be moot. It seems that the move has fallen through – and nobody really seems sure why. There was talk this morning that Enciso had failed a medical.

Chelsea column claims “bizarre situation” has no answers yet

Kieran Gill’s Chelsea Confidential said that: “Brighton are staying schtum on the bizarre situation surrounding Julio Enciso, who agreed to join the BlueCo group, but has been left in limbo amid reports that he failed a medical.”

“The Seagulls, and BlueCo are unable to comment on medical circumstances.

“It was never confirmed whether Enciso would be signing for Strasbourg or Chelsea with nobody wishing to shed light on the strange setup.”

To us, that makes it sound like he did fail a medical, but it’s just bad for the player and Brighton’s chances of selling him to admit that.
