The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona have made first contacts with the entourage of Rúben Amorim, amid their ongoing search for a new head coach.

That’s according to the reliable Esport3, who have this evening provided a fresh insight into developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

It is of course common knowledge that Deco and his team of directors have kicked their hunt for a replacement for the outbound Xavi into full swing ahead of the summer.

In turn, a whole host of tacticians have been tipped to take up the Barcelona reins, with a view to next season.

To this point, the likes of Hansi Flick, Mikel Arteta, Roberto De Zerbi, Imanol, Jürgen Klopp and Sérgio Conceição have all been named as candidates for the role.

And, as alluded to above, on Saturday, yet another name has been thrown into the fray.

As per Esport3, Barca have set their sights on the services of Sporting CP headmaster Rúben Amorim.

Joan Laporta and co. are said to be appreciative of the attacking stylings of the 39-year-old, whose Sporting side have racked up a league-leading 53 goals in 19 Liga Portugal outings this season.

First contacts have in turn been made, over the possibility of bringing Amorim in upon the close of the campaign.

Not only that, but the Portuguese himself is understood to be keen on the idea of taking his talents to La Liga.

One major stumbling block, however, comes in the form of the financial outlay likely to be required, with Amorim’s contract in Lisbon containing a €30 million release clause.
