It’s not been an overly good season for Real Betis, although they are on course to qualify for Europe for a fourth successive season. Isco Alarcon has been the standout performer for Los Verdiblancos, but over the last few months, he has almost been matched stride for stride by Johnny Cardoso.
Cardoso joined Betis in January from Internacional, and he has hit the ground running immediately at the Benito Villamarin. He has adapted very well to Spanish football, and already, interest is being shown in his services.
According to Diario de Sevilla, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are among the clubs that are keen on a summer move for Cardoso. Both clubs are in need of a defensive midfielder this summer, and given that the USMNT star is only 22 years of age, he would be a fine signing for the short and long term.
Real Betis would be open to selling Cardoso after only six months. They bought him for €6m, and despite his release clause being €80m, they would settle for achieving a fee of €30m, which could certainly be tempting for Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
