After seeing Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix make a fine start to life at the club, FC Barcelona are already looking at innovative formulas to try and sign the Portuguese duo on a permanent transfer.

This claim comes from SPORT, who report that Barça understand that their financial situation would make it difficult to buy Cancelo and Felix next year and as such they are studying all possible avenues to make it happen.

Great starts for the Joaos

There were some skeptics about how things would work out for Barcelona if they brought in Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix this past summer, especially in the case of the latter.

But, just a few weeks in, the pair have surpassed expectations and already established themselves a key cog in Xavi’s team.

Cancelo has scored two goals already, including the all-important winner against Celta Vigo last weekend, and has added a sense of freshness on the right flank.

Joao Felix, meanwhile, has also been among the goals, netting three already, and has struck up a nice partnership with Robert Lewandowski in attack.

While their strong starts are a big boost for Barcelona, it could turn out to be a bane with an eye on the future as their market values will rise significantly if it continues, which would make a permanent transfer tricky.

Tight finances

As per SPORT, Barcelona will not have much room to spend heavy in the summer transfer window next year, making it hard for them to land Cancelo and Felix permanently.

But with the finances likely to be tight, Barça are looking at other possible options to lower their valuations.

One avenue would be to include a player as part of the deal, which Atletico Madrid might be receptive to, but Man City have no interest in such an operation unless it is a big star.

There is no possibility of extending their loan deals either, so Barcelona must find a way for all parties to reach a satisfactory agreement.

Discussions are being held with Jorge Mendes, who represents both Felix and Cancelo. No movement is expected until January, though, and it will only be done if both players are keen on prolonging their stay in Catalonia.
