Aston Villa sign Southampton midfielder Kendall | OneFootball

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Southampton midfielder Lucia Kendall.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Villans this afternoon.

The 21-year-old’s contract with former club Southampton expired last month and she therefore joins Aston Villa on a free transfer.

Kendall is a product of the well-respected Southampton academy system. She went on to break into The Saints’ senior side and cemented her place in the centre of midfield. Kendall made 103 appearances for Southampton in all competitions in which she scored 29 goals. The player has helped Southampton climb the footballing pyramid in recent years.

The England youth international is one of the most exciting technicians in the professional game and she should have no issues with the step up to Barclays Women’s Super League football.

After joining Aston Villa, Kendall said “I’m really excited. The club have got big ambitions and it’s a really nice set-up from what I’ve seen. I’m just really excited to get going.

“With the investment in the women’s side, the facilities, I just think it’s a really good club with big ambitions. The style that Natalia [Arroyo] wants to play aligns exactly with how I want to play; I want to keep the ball. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Kendall is Aston Villa’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window.
