Bayer Leverkusen have announced that they have sacked head coach Erik ten Hag after only two games in charge.

For now, the assistant coaching team will take first-team training until a replacement is found.

Ten Hag was appointed as Leverkusen’s head coach earlier this summer, replacing Xabi Alonso, who had departed for Real Madrid.

However, things have not worked out. Reports suggest that the players are unhappy with the way the Dutchman has managed things since his arrival, have lost the dressing room, and there has even been disagreement with his assistant head coaches. This has resulted in ten Hag losing support from Simon Rolfes as well as Fernando Carro.

What hasn’t helped is the constant revolving door of players coming in and out of the club. This has meant that the Dutchman has never had a settled enough squad to work with.

On the pitch, things also haven’t been great. Leverkusen have played poorly in their opening games against Hoffenheim and Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga.

Now, Leverkusen have wasted the past three months and must find a new head coach who can take charge during the international break before the Bundesliga resumes.
