Moneyline bets are the simplest way to bet on sports, and are a wager on which player or team you think will win. There are no modifiers such as point spreads on these kinds of bets; this is simply a bet on who will come out on top.

Although moneyline bets are easy to understand and great if you’re building a parlay, they do have some drawbacks. The biggest one is that they offer poor value if there’s a heavy favourite in a game. If you’ve got a championship contender going up against an especially poor team, it isn’t uncommon to see moneylines of -500 or greater.

Multi Bets

It’s possible to combine multiple bets, known as legs, into larger wagers. These are known as multi bets. The most common kind of multi bet is a parlay, where you add different legs into a single bet. The odds of each leg are combined, giving the potential for huge returns; however, the added risk is that every leg has to hit in order for the bet to win.

Parlays are not the only kind of multi bets available at Bwin, though. If you look at your bet slip, you’ll see the ‘Round Robins’ tab. When you’ve added your legs to your bet slip, you can click there and see what other multi bets you can place. These can include complex bets such as Yankees, Luck 31s, and Canadians, along with Round Robins, where you only need to get a certain number of your legs right in order to win.

When we talk about betting on outrights, we’re referring to betting on which team or player will end the season as a champion. Spread Betting

A spread bet is one of the most commonly placed wagers in Canada, and you’ll see it offered on almost every game. With these, the favourite is given a points handicap and the underdog an equal points boost.

For instance, let’s say the Buffalo Bills are -6.5 point favourites against the +6.5 point New York Jets. For a spread bet on the Bills to hit, they’d need to win the game by 7 points or more. The Jets, meanwhile, would need to either win the game outright or lose by 6 points or fewer for a bet on them to win.

The idea of betting like this is that it eliminates the poor value you often see with moneyline bets, as the spread is always around +100 for both sides.

Totals

A totals bet is one on the combined number of points scored during a game. This can be either the game total, where the points from both teams are added together, or individual totals for each side.

You don’t have to bet on just the final points totals, either. You can bet by period/quarter or half as well, or take player prop bets into consideration and bet on how many points a single player will put up.

Bwin App
