Inter Milan could sign Hellas Verona defender Juan Cabal for a fee of around €10 million including add-ons.

This according to today’s print edition of Verona-based newspaper L’Arena, via FCInterNews. The newspaper report that the Nerazzurri are pushing to sign the 23-year-old ahead of Lazio and Juventus.

Verona defender Cabal has emerged as a major target for Inter in their search for a defender.

The Colombian is a fairly logical profile for the Nerazzurri’s needs.

Inter’s plan is to sign a left-footed defender as part of a reshuffle at the back.

The reason for this is a serious injury to wingback to Tajon Buchanan. With the Canadian set to miss the first few months of the season, the Nerazzurri’s depth on the flanks is reduced.

However, Inter will not sign a player to cover for Buchanan directly.

Rather, the Nerazzurri’s plan is to have the versatile Carlos Augusto to play exclusively at wingback while Buchanan is out.

Since Augusto covered a significant number of minutes on the left of the back three last season, though, this means that Inter will have to bring in a new signing to reinforce in that area of the pitch.

Cabal has largely played at left-back for Verona since his move from Atletico Nacional in 2022.

The 23-year-old can play as an attacking left-back, but also has strong defensive qualities.

In the last match of last season, a 2-2 thriller between Verona and Inter, Cabal even played in the centre of a back four.

Therefore, Inter view Cabal as having the right style of play to play on the left of Simone Inzaghi’s back three.

On Thursday, there was a meeting between Inter and Cabal’s representatives.

Now, it will be up to Inter to start negotiations with Verona as well.

And according to L’Arena, there is a prospective fee in mind.

The newspaper report that the Nerazzurri could sign Cabal for a fee of €8 million as an initial amount, plus €2 million in add-ons.

Inter are not the only team with an interest in the 23-year-old.

Lazio are also keen to reunited Cabal with former Verona coach Marco Baroni.

Meanwhile, Juventus also consider the Colombian a target.

L’Arena report that the Bianconeri could offer centre-back Facundo Gonzalez as part of a deal for Cabal, which could tempt Verona.

But on the other hand, if the GIalloblu aim to sell Gonzalez for a straight cash fee then Inter could sign him in a deal worth a total of around €10 million.
