Inter Milan are hoping that they can get “bailed out” of a tough situation with forward Joaquin Correa by interest from Genoa.

Correa is now three years into his time as an Inter player.

The Nerazzurri signed the Argentine three years ago from Lazio. He arrived on a four-year deal in the summer of 2021.

Inter spent big to sign Correa, who was an attacking reinforcement after Romelu Lukaku’s sale to Chelsea.

However, the former Sevilla and Sampdoria forward was never able to produce his best form in an Inter shirt.

Last season, Correa was on loan at Marseille. He failed to score or assist a goal, or gain a starting spot at the Ligue 1 club.

Correa’s contract runs out at the end of next June. There would be no prospect for another loan away – Inter must sell him once and for all.

It is not as though there has been zero interest in the Argentine’s signature.

River Plate are keen on bringing the 29-year-old back to his home country Argentina.

There has been interest from Turkish giants Fenerbahce and Galatasaray. As there has been from the Saudi Pro League.

Then, two of Correa’s former clubs have sounded out a surprise return in the form of Lazio and Sevilla.

And recent rumours have also linked the out-of-favour Inter forward with Monza and Real Betis.

Then, there are also AEK Athens pushing to sign Correa this summer.

But in all of these cases, the finances involved in a deal make things difficult.

Correa is still amortized for €8.5 million in Inter’s balance sheet from the fee they paid to sign him from Lazio. Therefore, that would ideally be the size of the fee the Nerazzurri would receive for him.

Meanwhile, Correa’s gross wages on his final season of his contract with Inter are €6.5 million.

Naturally, this €15 million total makes things tough for Inter. And it even means that finding a solution by agreeing a termination of his contract via mutual consent won’t be easy.

But Inter are now hoping that interest from Genoa can represent an exit route for Correa.

The Grifone are searching for a replacement for Albert Gudmundsson, who wants to leave this summer.

Correa is among the players Genoa are eyeing up. And Inter are hoping that the Ligurians make a serious move and finally rid them of the Argentine once and for all.
