Former Real Madrid star Mesut Özil has on Friday forwarded some advice to Blancos starlet Arda Güler.

As much, of course, comes amid what has proven a difficult debut campaign to date for Güler in Spain’s capital.

Since linking up with Real from Fenerbahçe in his home country of Turkey last summer, the 19-year-old has majorly struggled to carve out a role for himself in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

Owing to a combination of fitness woes and competition for places, Güler, all told, has been afforded just seven appearances, only one of which came in the form of a start.

Speaking in an interview with Marca on Friday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his former Fenerbahçe teammate’s situation at the Santiago Bernabéu was put to the aforementioned Mesut Özil.

Having established himself as something of an iconic figure in the ’10’ role at Real, Özil is well positioned to provide advice to Güler when it comes to the requirements to succeed under the bright lights in Madrid.

And, after first revealing his take that the situation the young Turk has been placed in is ‘not easy to handle’, Özil went on to preach one simple message – Patience:

“I know him very well. He was like my little brother when we both played for Fenerbahçe. Everyone knows his talent, so I don’t want to praise him too much and put more pressure on him. His situation is not very easy to handle, especially when all the hope of a country as fascinating for football as Turkey is placed on him.

“Be patient. Surely his time will come. He is still very young. He can learn a lot in each training session. And he has world-class players in front of him. Patience.”
