Real Madrid starlet Arda Güler has provided an insight into the helping hand which he afforded to former club Fenerbahçe, amid negotiations between the parties last summer.

Midfielder Güler, of course, departed his home country of Turkey last July.

As much came after La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid beat out fierce competition, to strike a deal with their counterparts at Süper Lig outfit Fenerbahçe.

This, however, did not prove a straightforward process for Los Blancos.

At the time, it was revealed that a release clause in Güler’s contract outlined that he could depart in the case of any interested club coughing up €17.5 million.

In the end, however, the brass at the Santiago Bernabéu ended up paying an initial €20 million, with the potential to rise to €30 million in the case of all bonuses being activated.

This came out of respect for selling club Fenerbahçe, with Güler’s camp having been of the opinion that his true market value was closer to €30 million.

Speaking in an interview with KAFA Sports this week, the 19-year-old himself was in turn drawn on the subject of the increased fee attached to his signing.

And Güler went on to reveal that as much came at the direct request of he and his family:

“Anyone who paid €17.5M (release clause) could buy me. Together with my family, we requested Real Madrid to pay more to Fenerbahçe. They kindly agreed, they understood.”
