Liverpool do not want to lose Jarell Quansah as they believe he has a very bright future. They’ll be holding onto him - despite an offer.

The Daily Mail reports that Liverpool rejected the chance to sign Anthony Gordon this weekend, primarily because the Magpies pushed for Jarell Quansah to be in the deal.

The Reds aren't willing to part with the centre-back, ending discussions. While they could resume, Quansah won't be a part of them.

Liverpool reportedly view Quansah as a player with fantastic potential and a future England international. That certainly appears to be the case, with the 21-year-old having made Gareth Southgate's provisional squad for Euro 2024.

And that kind of player holds extra value. Not only would it mean Quansah is a top player, but he'd also be completely homegrown for Liverpool.

That helps significantly with both Premier League and Champions League squads - both have restrictions on the number of foreign players.

Liverpool to keep Quansah

Quansah was a major success story last season, rising from a somewhat forgotten young player into Virgil van Dijk's primary partner. Jurgen Klopp publicly made the latter clear, in fact.

“We play once a week and we just look at who looks in the best moment and Jarell is one of them," he said in a press conference.

“It’s how it is, we don’t play with three centre-halves so that means you have to make a decision, and Jarell is training really well and we have a lot of training sessions.

“It doesn’t mean that Ibou or Joe aren’t training well, but Jarell is doing really well and that’s how it is and that’s why I make these kinds of decisions."

Klopp raved about the young defender, calling him a "very, very, very talented player, really, really good". We'll have to see if Arne Slot sees things the same way.

Liverpool as a club certainly seem to.
