Gent have announced the signing of Kortrijk playmaker Abdelkahar Kadri on a deal that will last until 2029. The Algerian was once the target of Eredivisie side Ajax, but ended up remaining with Kortrijk. He has been a key player for the side in recent seasons but, after they were relegated last season, he was always destined to leave. Gent will hope that they 25-year-old can fit into Ivan Leko’s system and be just as impactful as he was with Kortrijk.
Kadri began his career in Algeria with Paradou AC, a club that has provided a number of talented players to the Pro League in recent seasons. He spent four seasons with Kortrijk, making 110 appearances. In that time, Kadri scored 18 goals and provided 19 assists, with eight of these assists and six of his goals coming during the 2024/2025 campaign.
Gent opened their 2025/2026 Pro League campaign with a defeat to Sint Truiden. With no European football this season, the club are desperate to get back into the top six and grab one of the European tickets at the end of the campaign.
