It has not been the best of weeks for the administration in the Barcelona offices. After all, the club not only lost out on their top target, Nico Williams, but also found themselves on the receiving end of a sanction by UEFA.
Now, Catalan Radio (h/t FCBWorld) has reported that the board could be in for a new blow as the conduct of the Joan Gamper Trophy at the Spotify Camp Nou is in grave danger.
The club officially announced the date of their return to the stadium just weeks ago and were confident they could host the exhibition match at the venue next month at least with limited seating. Now, however, it appears they may not meet that deadline either.
As relayed by the Spanish outlet, Barcelona need to obtain two licenses before conducting any game at the historic stadium post-renovation – the activity license and the initial occupancy license.

The former is the permit granted by the municipality to show matches to be held at the stadium while the latter is a necessary permit to allow any official activity or event at the venue.
Barcelona are not expected to have any issues in obtaining the activity license. The problem, however, lies in the initial occupancy license.
The municipality have made it clear that they will not grant the license until Barcelona completes works on the first and second tiers.
With just 34 days left for the Gamper clash, it looks increasingly difficult for them to complete all the pending work in time to get the license.
There is no doubt that Joan Laporta and Co. will push for quick completion of the pending work for it will paint a very sorry image of the club should they miss the deadline after publicly announcing their return. At this point, however, nothing is a given.
