Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been named in the 2024 FIFPRO Men’s World11, a huge honour for the club.

The Reds skipper is widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the world, with Jamie Carragher even hailing him as the best defender ever in the Premier League.

The 33-year-old centre-back has been imperious for both club and country, and Liverpool are proud to share his latest achievement.

Six Real Madrid players – including the now-retired Toni Kroos – and four Manchester City players are included in the 2024 Men’s World 11.

The Liverpool defender is the only player not from Real or City to be voted into the 2024 men’s team of the year.

The Reds have confirmed the news on X handle with the caption – “Well in, Skipper.”

Virgil van Dijk future needs to be sorted quickly

Van Dijk has been simply phenomenal this season under Arne Slot. He is one of the main reasons why Liverpool have made such an impressive start and have maintained the best defence in the Premier League.

He has made 14 starts in the Premier League, scoring one goal and providing one assist. He has also scored one goal in five Champions League starts this season.

Van Dijk’s future has been well documented. Along with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, he is in the final year of his contract at Anfield.

While there has been no official confirmation from the club yet, there is an expectation that both Salah and Van Dijk could stay at the club beyond the end of the season.

He still has a few good years left in him, and Liverpool cannot afford to lose him in the summer.

Liverpool will face Girona in the Champions League on Tuesday night away from home.
