Video: New Norwich boss responds to Celtic’s interest in Adam Idah

The good news from a Celtic perspective is that it appears that the Norwich City transfer activity this summer is going to be funded from the proceeds of player sales, and that opens the door for Celtic’s pursuit of Adam Idah if an acceptable price is going to be offered.

The new Norwich City manager Johannes Hoff Thorup held his first media conference earlier today and was asked about the Celtic interest in signing Adam Idah on a permanent contract from Norwich. Listen to that exchange below…

Asked about Celtic interest in Idah, but the intention of first getting him in for the new manager to assess, Johannes Hoff Thorup said: “Yes, definitely with that guy. “He’s an exciting player. And he’s from here, and he’s been in the club so many years and can do dangerous stuff up front.

“He’s fast, he moves well, he gets into these areas in the box where you decide games. So definitely, I will have a look at him, I think otherwise it will be stupid.”

Norwich fans have picked up on the facial reactions to their Sporting director Ben Knapper, sitting next to the new boss, as being an indication that Idah will indeed be sold this summer to Celtic.

Knapper made it clear that Norwich City will have to trade players this summer within their self-funding model, so the likes of Jon Rowe, Gabby Sara and Josh Sargent, Adam Idah and Marcelino Nunez could be sold to fund the manager’s own signings as the Carrow Road side once again look at assembling a squad that can get them promoted back to the Premier League.

Celtic supporters will want this deal down as soon as possible and alongside the goalkeeper search, this should be a top priority for the club. Idah’s valuation will have at least doubled due to his success at Celtic, with the reports back at the start of the year pricing the Republic of Ireland striker at £3m.

He could end up costing Celtic double that but few supporters would argue that it’s too much.
