Tuttosport: ‘Broad, young, competitive’ – Fonseca’s three mercato requirements for Milan | OneFootball

Paulo Fonseca has been tasked with renovating the AC Milan squad, and whilst there are definitely areas which need investment, there is also a need for specific goals to be met within the mercato.

For every manager, the mercato must follow two principles. Firstly, in terms of the player profiles which are recruited, and as we know, Fonseca seemingly is looking to add much more physicality to his Milan side.

However, the other is the profile of his squad, less so in terms of their actual styles, but rather elements the squad must fit, and Tuttosport (via Radio Rossonera) have reported that the Portuguese coach has identified his non-negotiables.

The report suggests that the Rossoneri are ‘working to provide a made-to-measure’ squad for the new manager, and whilst the ‘mercato strategy’ is still being finalised the goals have been laid out.

By the end of the window, Milan’s squad must be more complete and be more broad in that sense. Last season, the biggest issues related to depth, or a lack of it, and this greatly harmed the Rossoneri’s season, as it did the season before as well.

Then, the players must be young and able to compete in Serie A from the off, whilst it would be understandable if some additions do not fit this bill if they are respected and have a high ceiling, there can be some strays from the guidelines, especially considering they would be for the Futuro side, as opposed to the senior team.
