Vincenzo Montella spoke about his experience at AC Milan after he guided Turkey to the final eight of the European Championship last night.

After a season-long spell with Sampdoria, Montella was appointed Milan’s head coach in 2016, and later that year he won his first title as a coach with the club which was the the Supercoppa Italiana. He was sacked by the club a year later, and has since coached in Spain and Turkey.

Last night Merih Demiral scored twice as Turkey booked their place in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals with a 2-1 win over Ralf Rangnick’s Austria, which in turn has set up a meeting with the Netherlands this weekend.

Montella spoke at a post-match press conference following the victory and he was asked about what it means to win, with his comments relayed by MilanNews. He recalled his past at Milan, with whom he lifted the aforementioned trophy.

“One victory does not cancel out another. If I look at the past, lifting a cup with Milan as a coach was wonderful because not many coaches can boast that in their career,” he said.

“But this with Turkey is on a different level, another dimension, you represent a country, not a team, it is at a European level. I can’t put them on the scale, but I would say the one of now, because it is now and I am enjoying it.”
