AC Milan and Newcastle United were in talks yesterday and two players came up during the discussions, Fabrizio Romano claims, and Fikayo Tomori was not one of them.

According to the latest from Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle and Milan were ‘in contact’ on Wednesday to discuss possible opportunities and there were two defenders that seemed to emerge in the talks.

However, Tomori was not one of them despite the reports circulating claiming that the Englishman is a target for the Magpies. Instead, Newcastle are showing interest in Malick Thiaw, but he is considered an ‘important part of Milan’s project’.

Kieran Trippier was also discussed but there is ‘nothing concrete’ on that front regarding Milan and the full-back, who is currently at the European Championship with England and can play on either side.

A few days ago, the source that broke the Tomori-Newcastle story reported that the player is not keen on the idea of joining them either and instead wants to remain with Milan, who can offer him Champions League football and with whom he has another three years on his deal.

As for Thiaw, he had a difficult season due to suffering a serious injury in the winter and was shaky when he returned, but he was excellent in 2022-23 and will get a clean slate under Paulo Fonseca.

The link to Trippier – given Milan are searching for a new right-back who can get forward a bit more that Davide Calabria – is perhaps not surprising.
