According to a report from La Voix du Nord, RC Lens are currently leading AS Monaco in the race to sign FC Metz forward Georges Mikautadze (23).

Mikautadze, who left Metz to join Ajax at the start of last season, returned to Les Grenats, almost saving them from relegation to Ligue 2. Despite dropping into France’s second tier, Metz did nonetheless activate the €13m purchase option included in the loan, as confirmed by Ajax.

However, he won’t remain with Les Grenats. Prior to Euro 2024, Mikautadze expressed a desire to remain in Ligue 1, however, there may be more widespread interest given his performances with Georgia at Euro 2024. “It’s opened me up to all of Europe. I’m showing my qualities here and I like that. I’m going on holiday and then we’ll see. I haven’t taken any decision for now,” he said in the wake of Georgia’s elimination at the hands of Spain.

It had been thought that AS Monaco were leading the race to sign the striker and that a deal was close, however, according to La Voix du Nord, it is now Lens who are leading the race.
