FC Barcelona will be hosting one of their former players, Gerard Gumbau, as Rayo Vallecano visit the Montjuic for their upcoming La Liga game tonight.

However, in addition to the La Masia graduate, this match will also see a former Real Madrid forward, Jorge de Frutos, play against the Blaugranes, as he is a fixed starter for Inigo Perez on the right wing.

The winger appeared in an interview with SPORT ahead of this game and talked about different aspects of the highly anticipated game between two very intense sides.

One of the subjects he talked about in this interview was the high defensive line of the Blaugranes, of which he wanted to take advantage in this game:

“Nowadays, opponents are studied in great detail. Iñigo loves to have everything under control, down to the smallest detail. While we aim to apply high pressing at times, we also need to have variations in a mid or high block.”

“Their high defensive line has both advantages and disadvantages. They are the team that forces the most offsides on their opponents. They push you to drop deep. The key is that once we recover the ball, we need to make two or three quick passes and look to exploit the space behind their defenders.”

Barcelona were able to win their first league game against Vallecano only in the last 10 minutes, as Dani Olmo scored the winning goal in the 82nd minute. De Frutos drew some references from that game in this interview as well:

“It was at the beginning of the league, and maybe this match could be somewhat similar to the first leg. We are a team that presses high and tries to prevent the opponent from playing, although in this case, it’s more difficult, of course. We will try to give them a scare. We know the individual quality they have up front—Dani Olmo came on in the second half and showed the player he is…”

There is no doubt that Barcelona are the better team on paper for this game. But Rayo have also been playing at a very good level for the last few weeks, and the match tonight is guaranteed to be an entertaining affair.
