There is a growing sentiment among Barcelona fans that youngster Hector Fort deserves more opportunities and that Jules Kounde might be getting overused.
The La Masia right-back has found minutes hard to come by and has only started three matches this term – two of which came due to Kounde being punished by manager Hansi Flick for being late to team meetings.
One such start came on Monday night when Barcelona took on Rayo Vallecano, with Fort making the most of his chance with a solid performance in Montjuic.
As highlighted by SPORT, Fort is experiencing a season of learning under Hansi Flick, with the manager taking a measured but hands-on approach with regard to his development.
It is important to remember that Fort, at 18, is still in his third year as a youth player. The cases of Pau Cubarsi and Lamine Yamal, who have become regular starters at just 17 years old, are highly unusual.

It is not standard practice at Barcelona for a player as young as Fort to debut at 17 and remain in the first-team squad while still technically a youth player.
Flick has taken a hands-on approach with Fort. One of the defining images of the season came in late August during Barcelona’s 7-0 victory over Real Valladolid when, after keeping the 18-year-old on the bench, he embraced the youngster, and explained his decision.
Since then, their communication has been constant. Flick values one-on-one discussions and a personal connection with his players – especially with younger talents.
During the winter transfer window, Fort received several offers, including from Como and Valencia. However, after consulting with his entourage, he decided to stay.
Flick, for his part, was delighted with the decision. While the German tactician might not have given Fort many regular opportunities, he understands the 18-year-old’s potential and is working closely with him to nurture it.
