Although Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha have the best numbers, there is no doubt that Lamine Yamal is another key part of this FC Barcelona attack, and his absence for some matches in the last part of the last year was keenly felt by Hansi Flick’s team.
Being a fixed starter for the German tactician, Yamal has played 31 games this season, scoring 11 goals and providing 13 assists. As a result, Blaugrana fans have expected to see him getting on the score sheet in every other game.
In these circumstances, it is surprising to note that it has been quite a while since he scored his last goal in La Liga. As Mundo Deportivo has noted, the Spaniard has not been able to score in the domestic league for the last four months, his last La Liga goal coming on 26th October, when the Catalans beat Real Madrid with a 4-0 scoreline.
In that game, Yamal scored the third goal for his side with a great finish from the right foot. However, since then, he has not been able to get another goal despite having played 730 minutes, or 12 hours of play, in La Liga.
With 11 goals in 2509 minutes, the La Masia graduate has been scoring at a rate of a goal every 228 minutes. However, this rate varies highly according to the competition in which he is playing.
For instance, in La Liga, the winger has 5 goals in 1624 minutes, averaging a goal every 324 minutes. On the other hand, in the Copa del Rey, UEFA Champions League, and the Super Cup, he scores every 148th minute, as he has scored 6 goals in 889 minutes. Thus, he requires half the amount of time to score in these competitions than what he needs to score in La Liga.
Hopefully, he will be able to break his duck tonight, as Barcelona take on Rayo Vallecano at theLluís Companys Olympic Stadium.
