Manchester City Football Schools and Samcheok City have today announced an exciting new collaboration aimed at enhancing youth football development and coach education in the South Korean city.
This initiative will see Manchester City coaches deliver two high-quality football programmes annually, designed to provide young players in Samcheok with high quality coaching experiences that align with the Club’s renowned football philosophy. In addition, Manchester City Football Schools will support the development of local coaches, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to elevate football training standards across the region.
Samcheok, located in the southernmost part of Gangwon Province, is a city with a strong commitment to sports, culture, and tourism. By partnering with Manchester City Football Schools, Samcheok aims to strengthen its sports offering, attract more families and tourists, and inspire a new generation of footballers within the community and beyond.
The short-term programmes will introduce young players to City’s training methodologies, focusing on technical skill development, tactical awareness, and personal growth. Simultaneously, the coach education initiative will provide local trainers with the tools to continue fostering talent year-round, ensuring a lasting impact on the city’s football ecosystem.
As part of the initiative, a select group of young players from Samcheok will also have the opportunity each year to travel to Manchester for a unique training experience with Manchester City, offering a glimpse into the professional football environment at the heart of one of the world’s top clubs.
This initial collaboration is seen as a stepping stone towards what both parties hope will grow into a long-term relationship focused on building a strong foundation for football development in the region.
Commenting on the initiative, Jorgina Busquets, Managing Director - Football Education, Recreation & Partner Clubs at City Football Group, said: "We are proud to be working with Samcheok City on this initiative. This reflects our belief in football as a force for good that can unite communities, develop young people, and inspire positive change. By sharing our coaching philosophy and expertise, we hope to make a meaningful impact in Samcheok."
Samcheok City Mayor, Sangsoo Park also stated: “Working with Manchester City Football Schools represents a meaningful starting point in Samcheok’s pursuit of combining sports and tourism, while also giving local youth access to greater opportunities and dreams. We’re pleased to establish a structured training environment through this collaboration with one of the world’s leading clubs. With our support, Samcheok aims to become a premier four-season sports destination on Korea’s east coast and a globally recognised sports tourism city. We look forward to deepening our cooperation with Manchester City and helping our region thrive on the international stage.”
The first programme will commence at Samcheok City’s brand-new football facility. To learn more and register interest, visit: www.mancityfs.kr
