Transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano has ruled out the prospect of Manchester City recruiting RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo in the coming days and weeks.

Conversation in the last few days has grown surrounding the Premier League champions’ interest in the Spanish international, as Manchester City continue in their pursuit of fresh recruits for the midfield ranks in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Dani Olmo is understood to have a release clause valid in his current Leipzig contract worth around £51 million, with such a fee unlikely to cause any problem for a club with the level of financial backing as Manchester City.

However, with Etihad Stadium bosses seemingly fixating their interest on Newcastle and Brazil’s Bruno Guimaraes, despite his £100 million release clause expiring earlier this week, there had been some feeling that simultaneous work could be taking place on Olmo.

Speaking as part of his latest transfer market update on YouTube, Fabrizio Romano has explained that while City are admirers of the talents on offer by Dani Olmo, the Premier League champions are currently not working on a deal for the playmaker.

“Man City appreciate Dani Olmo, Man City like the player, he was one of the players they had on the list, for example last summer or two years ago,” Romano explained. “But at the moment, as of now, Manchester City are NOT working on a deal for Dani Olmo.”

Offering an insight into the ongoing work taking place within the Etihad Stadium on a transfers and recruitment front, Romano continued, “At the moment, the intention of Manchester City is not to advance on this kind of solution.

“Because they are looking at different opportunities, different positions. So as of today, Dani Olmo is going to Man City? NO. At the moment the situation is quiet.”

But what would these different opportunity and positions include for Manchester City?

Away from the central midfield ranks, there is a chance the Premier League champions could recruit in the goalkeeping position amid ongoing concern over the future of Ederson, who is attracting strong interest from Saudi Arabia.

The forward line could yet feature new names, despite Savio expected to complete a switch to the Etihad Stadium from fellow City Football Group club ESTAC Troyes, with an assessment to be made on the player’s talents during the pre-season tour of the United States.

Right-sided full-back is also an area under analysis by City officials, with Kyle Walker approaching the final seasons of his top-level playing career, and some concerns over whether Rico Lewis can be afforded the necessary game time immediately to continue his development.
