Talks are also ongoing with Trent Alexander-Arnold as the Reds attempt to secure the futures of their three top stars
Virgil van Dijk has reportedly been offered a new Liverpool deal, with Mohamed Salah expected to be next in line.
Salah, Van Dijk and Reds right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract in July 2025, with the Anfield futures of all three players currently up in the air.
According to The Athletic, a contract extension has been offered to Van Dijk but it fell short of the Dutchman’s expectations. A breakthrough over the terms of a new deal is therefore yet to be made.
Van Dijk, 33, joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2018 and has enjoyed an excellent start to Arne Slot’s first season in charge on Merseyside.

So too has Salah, who scored twice on Wednesday night as a 3-3 draw at Newcastle saw leaders Liverpool drop points in the Premier League for the first time since late October.
Salah was Liverpool’s key player during the Jurgen Klopp era and is now the Premier League’s leading scorer this season, with his brace at St James’ Park moving him on to 13 and past Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.
The Egyptian, 32, is being looked at by clubs from the Middle East aware of his contract situation. He is open to staying at Liverpool but, as of Sunday’s 2-0 win over City, the club had not tabled an offer to extend his stay at Anfield.
Following his double in last month’s 3-2 win over Southampton, Salah said: “We are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club. I’m probably more out than in.”
Salah added it is “not in my hands” and said he was “disappointed” by the club’s delay at proposing a new deal. While Salah waits to hear from the club in the coming weeks, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold are already in regular dialogue with Liverpool chiefs over their respective contract situations.
Alexander-Arnold is the subject of strong interest from Real Madrid, who hope to sign him as a free agent in the summer. The 26-year-old is very close friends with his England team-mate and Real star Jude Bellingham.
