Barcelona are running riot at the moment and are rightfully one of Europe’s most in-form teams.

Having put four goals past Bayern Munich last night, the Catalans are in a state of confidence they have not enjoyed in recent years and there is a lot of positivity heading into the weekend’s El Clasico.

Real Madrid and Barcelona, both recorded thumping wins over elite German opposition and it is safe to say that the coming Clasico is the most anticipated one in recent years.

Speaking to the media earlier this week, Joan Laporta’s advisor and right-hand man Enric Masip spoke on Barcelona’s resurgence this season, the positive run so far and the upcoming Clasico among other topics.

He began by elaborating on what the Clasico meant to Barcelona and how it was still the epitome of football.

“A derby is always evenly matched, regardless of the league standings, they are very hard-fought games.”

On Barcelona’s start to the season so far under a new manager and despite all odds, he said,

“The start of the season has been very exciting for us, the team is competing very well despite the injuries we’ve had. Flick is giving order to the club and a good team mentality.”

“Playing at the Bernabeu is always a challenge, it is a difficult field, and even if it is not playing at its best, it has decisive players. We respect this confrontation a lot,” he added on the upcoming game.

Previewing the game between Barcelona and Real Madrid from a tactical perspective, Masip spoke on how the two teams advocated for different styles of football.

“Right now Barça’s football and Madrid’s are completely different, they are different models, both managed by great coaches and I think that will be important to see a good game.”

“It is true that it is played at the Bernabeu and when it is played at home there is a certain advantage, but today the players perform equally in one field or another,” he added on the home advantage Madrid will enjoy.

Finally, he gave his two cents on the strengths of both teams and what will be tested at the weekend.

“Madrid has the gift of knowing how to suffer and change the result of a game in a few minutes, but Barça comes from a rather positive dynamic with a brilliant game and with substantial changes compared to last year,” he said.

“A more vertical model and a good physical plan of the players, they endure the games very well and put together lines so that the rival has problems,” he added on the improvement for Barcelona.
