Leading figures at Spanish football’s two top clubs are in the running to be named the Champions League Player of the Week.

And their respective identities, in truth, should come as little surprise…

From Real Madrid, Vinícius Jr’s sensational hat-trick against Borussia Dortmund is enough to earn the 24-year-old a spot amongst the nominees.

Turning attentions towards Barcelona, and another Brazilian, in Raphinha, was of course on target to the tune of three goals himself, against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

He, too, is therefore on the shortlist for the prize.

Next up comes AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, whose brace proved key in guiding the Rossoneri past a plucky Club Brugge outfit.

And rounding out the candidates to be named Player of the Week in Europe’s premiere competition is Takumi Minamino, after the Japanese notched a double as well as an assist, en route to AS Monaco’s 5-1 drubbing of Red Star Belgrade.
