The Yorkshire outfit have confirmed the arrival of the 42-year-old, signing a three-year deal with the League One side.

This will be the former goalkeeper’s first ever managerial role, having spent the last three years in the coaching staff at Portman Road.

His aim will be to guide Huddersfield to promotion next season after the team suffered an underwhelming campaign that concluded with a 10th place finish in the table.

McKenna has praised Grant for his role in Ipswich’s rise from League One to the Premier League.

He is excited for the coach to take on his first managerial role, and revealed that the Suffolk outfit will try to continue growing their backroom team following his departure.

"Lee has been a big part of our success in recent seasons and has developed fantastically as a coach during his time here,” said McKenna, via Yorkshire Live.

“He deserves this managerial opportunity at Huddersfield.

"At the club we will continue to grow our infrastructure and develop our backroom staff in what is an exciting time for Ipswich Town.”

Chaplin has shown his gratitude to the impact Grant made at Portman Road during his time as a coach there.

The forward is confident that the 42-year-old will go on to succeed with the Terriers.

“Can’t thank this man enough,” wrote Chaplin, via his X account.

“Integral.

“No doubts Granty will succeed in his new venture.”

Huddersfield finished 14 points adrift of the League One play-off places following a disastrous second half of the campaign, which led to the dismissal of Michael Duff as manager back in March.

Grant appointment is exciting for Huddersfield

Grant was clearly well liked at Ipswich for the work he did there over the last three years.

It is certainly a risk from the Terriers to appoint someone with no managerial experience, but he would’ve learned a lot working under McKenna.

McKenna himself worked as a coach at Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United for years before embarking on his managing career at Ipswich, and he proved a very successful appointment.

Grant will now be looking to follow in a similar path, and Huddersfield have taken that risk in the hopes they can benefit with a much stronger promotion push next season.
