The Sky Blues, who lost to Arsenal on penalties in the Community Shield last season, haven’t won the competition since 2019, despite featuring in the annual curtain-raiser regularly in recent years.

Manchester City suffered defeat to Manchester United in their last visit to Wembley, losing the Emirates FA Cup Final 1-2 in May, following first-half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

Guardiola’s side collapsed to a calamitous 0-2 half-time deficit and failed to force the tie into extra-time despite a spirited second-half showing, as Jeremy Doku pulled one goal back in the 87th minute at Wembley Stadium.

City, who won a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title last season, beat Manchester United in both Premier League meetings during the 2023/24 campaign, winning 0-3 at Old Trafford and 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

Both clubs have made new signings ahead of the season and Community Shield meeting, with Manchester City completing the signing of Savinho from sister-club ES Troyes for an initial £21 million.

Ahead of the clash at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 10 August, the FA have announced the Match Officials for the 2024 Community Shield between Manchester City and Manchester United.
