AC Milan are yet to make a January signing, and an inability to get at least a couple of signings could put the Champions League race in more danger.
As Calciomercato.com write, Milan showed signs of ‘physical and mental distress’ during the victory over Como on Tuesday night. After a poor first half they conceded in transition (again) while pushing to open the scoring, then Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao bailed them out (against).
Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Geoffrey Moncada were present in the stands of the Stadio Sinigaglia and they must have seen the warning signs illuminating after what was a victory that came via a very narrow margin against a team one point above the bottom three.
Sergio Conceiçao is getting to grips with the squad but he ‘cannot work miracles’ while asking the likes of Tijjani Reijnders, Youssouf Fofana and others to work overtime. Christian Pulisic too seems to be having a moment of difficulty, having sustained fatigue following a previous muscle issue.
Conceiçao needs reinforcements as quickly as possible. At least one midfielder – if not two – is required, with Lucas Gourna-Douath, Warren Bondo and Samu Costa the names monitored. In attack, Marcus Rashford is being negotiated over but Milan have been left in a state of waiting.
The management of Milan can be granted the extenuating circumstances of a winter transfer window where opportunities are lacking and mistakes can be made, but immobility risks jeopardising a potential surge towards the top four and the over €50m that brings.
