Borussia Dortmund travel to Barcelona tonight for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
The German giants reached last season’s final but have endured a challenging campaign in 2024/25. Domestically, Dortmund are eighth in the Bundesliga and facing an uphill battle to secure European football for next season.
However, Niko Kovac’s side have reached the Champions League quarter-finals for the third time in five seasons. Dortmund also boast Serhou Guirassy in their ranks with the Guinea international having scored 10 goals in this season’s competition. Only Barcelona winger Raphinha has netted more.
That said, Barcelona will start the tie as favourites. The Catalans are unbeaten in 22 games in all competitions and targeting a La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League treble under Hansi Flick. The teams also met earlier in the competition, with Barcelona winning 3-2 during a league phase clash at the Westfalenstadion.
Nico Schlotterbeck will not play again this season after suffering a knee injury in a big blow to Dortmund’s hopes. The Germany international joins Marcel Sabitzer on the sidelines, who is also ruled out with a knee issue. Yan Couto and Niklas Sule are available after suspensions.
Dortmund predicted XI: Kobel; Ryerson, Anton, Bensebaini, Can, Svensson; Gross, Ozcan, Brandt; Adeyemi, Guirassy.
Barcelona host Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday 9th April 2025. Kick-off is 20:00 BST.
In the UK, tonight’s fixture is being shown live on TNT Sports 2.
