Since leaving Barcelona in 2013, Thiago Alcantara has incessantly been linked with a move back to his boyhood club.

While a transfer never materialized, Thiago is seemingly all set to return to his roots, but this time in a vastly different position.

Indeed, the recently retired midfielder has opted to take up a coaching position at Barcelona, with his former manager Hansi Flick eager to see through a reunion.

Barcelona will announce Thiago’s appointment tomorrow

As per Mundo Deportivo the club will officially announce Thiago Alcantara as part of Flick’s staff tomorrow.

Following multiple meetings with the Barcelona hierarchy at the club’s offices over the past few days, Thiago has accepted Flick’s proposal to join him in the dugout.

In fact, he was also present today at the club’s training facilities and was spotted with the coaching staff during training sessions.

As the club prepares for the pre-season, it appears the 33-year-old midfielder has decided to get a headstart of things and waste no time.

Reports have thus far indicated that Barcelona will only be able to benefit from Thiago’s insight temporarily, as he has yet to give the green light for a permanent role, which is what Flick aspires for.

But the Catalans’ official announcement tomorrow should help clear the air. In any case, his input will solve a crucial issue for the coaching staff, which is to bridge the gap between the coach and the players.

Considering Thiago’s fluency in both Spanish and German, he would be handed the responsibility of conveying key concepts to players and erasing any language barriers.

Moreover, as one of the greats of the game, simply having Thiago’s experience and understanding of the game would be a huge plus for Flick & Co.
