Barcelona plan to announce contract termination today | OneFootball

La Liga giants Barcelona intend to make official a fresh departure from the club’s first-team ranks on Thursday.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Oriol Romeu as the player primed to move on.

The subject of Romeu’s future in Barcelona has of course long proven a prominent talking point in the media.

This comes after the former Southampton man returned to base with the Blaugrana following a season-long loan spell at Girona.

From here, it was quickly made clear to Romeu that he had no place in the plans of Hansi Flick for the campaign ahead.

Deco and co. in turn set about finding a new home for the 33-year-old.

With no suitor having yet tabled an offer deemed as reasonable on the part of the Camp Nou hierarchy, however, alternative arrangements have been sought.

One such option comes in the form of the termination of the remaining year of Romeu’s contract.

And as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from Spain this week is anything to go by, then as much can now be considered all but imminent.

As per a report from MD:

‘Barça and Oriol Romeu are close to reaching an agreement to terminate his contract. The club’s and the player’s positions are now very close and the youth player’s final departure could be immediate. The plan is to announce it this Thursday, August 28.’
