Newcastle United have finally given their green light to Dan Ashworth to join Manchester United as their sporting director with immediate effect.

INEOS were always keen on bringing Ashworth to Old Trafford for this summer’s transfer window rather than letting him serve his lengthy gardening leave. As such, Ashworth’s arrival has the potential to speed up United’s transfer business.

Many Premier League clubs appeared to be scrambling in the final days of June to comply with Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). United do not want to do the same in the future. Accordingly, they are expected to raise funds through selling multiple players this summer.

Amid this concern, Barcelona, who themselves are in a precarious financial situation, could ease the Red Devils’ worries.

According to CaughtOffside, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is Barca’s ‘surprise Plan B option’ to strengthen their right-back position.

The Catalan giants remain keen on bringing back Joao Cancelo to Camp Nou. The Manchester City full-back spent last season on loan in Spain.

It is understood Barcelona have agreed personal terms with Cancelo to turn his loan move into a permanent transfer. Still, an agreement with City is yet to be struck.

However, it is added the Spanish outfit also have alternatives in mind should they fail to get Cancelo. Wan-Bissaka, Emerson Royal and Arnau Martínez are all on their list of potential back-ups.

Wan-Bissaka enjoyed a promising season under Erik ten Hag and even caught plenty of eyes with his resilient performance in the FA Cup final in May.

Still, the former Crystal Palace right-back is still considered a second-choice option behind Diogo Dalot, who was comfortably one of United’s best players in the last campaign.

As such, United are open to selling Wan-Bissaka for the right price. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the 26-year-old defender is attracting serious interest from Galatasaray, who have already submitted a bid worth €15 million for his services.

The Premier League side are thought to be looking for a fee in the region of €20m for one of the best full-backs in the game in one-v-one situations. It remains unclear as to whether Barca are in the position to meet the price-tag.
