Arsenal have made contact with French side Rennes to register interest in a promising young defender. The Gunners are expected to dip back into the market in the final weeks of the transfer window.
Following a very busy July for incomings, the focus is now expected to shift as the new season approaches. With a top-class striker and other key areas addressed, Arsenal will now look to balance the books through player sales. After that, the only anticipated addition is Eberechi Eze, but that may not be the end of their business.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have made contact to express interest in 20-year-old Rennes centre-back Jérémy Jacquet. The club are said to really “like” his profile and are monitoring him closely, even though he recently signed a contract extension until 2029.
Jacquet has just returned from back-to-back loan spells with Clermont Foot and could now be on the move. Despite signing new terms, the 6ft 2in defender is reportedly on Arsenal’s list in case of a defensive exit, either this summer or next.
Though he has limited top-level experience with only 36 senior appearances to his name, Jacquet’s potential has caught Arsenal’s attention. Primarily a centre-back, he is also capable of playing at right-back, making him a flexible option for Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal’s interest in Jacquet has raised speculation about the future of William Saliba. Could the Gunners be planning for life without him?
Supporters will be hoping that is not the case. While Saliba has publicly expressed his commitment to the club, a contract extension is still pending. Until that is signed, speculation will remain.
So, should the links to Jérémy Jacquet be seen as a concern for Saliba’s future? Or is this just smart forward planning?
