As Manchester City went out of the FIFA Club World Cup at the round of sixteen stage with a 4-3 defeat to Al Hilal the biggest concern to come out of the match for Pep Guardiola’s side was the injury sustained by Rodri. Manchester City’s midfield general had to be substituted during extra time of the match in Orlando. The hope was that the injury Rodri sustained was only a minor concern.
Now it has been reported that Rodri is expected to report to City training on Monday, July 28. All eyes will be on any update on Rodri’s fitness with the new Premier League season set to begin in three weeks’ time.
Tyrone Marshall has reported for Manchester Evening News that Rodri is expected to report to Manchester City training on Monday. Furthermore, Marshall reports that Rodri’s condition will be assessed. It is further reported by Tyrone Marshall that Rodri’s injury was only a minor one.
Rodri’s condition will be one story to look out for when Pep Guardiola’s squad returns to training on Monday. The Spanish midfielder remains Manchester City’s most important player. Provided that he can return to full fitness and his best form, he will have a massive role to play next season for Manchester City. Although it must be said that, given Rodri’s importance to City and the severity of the ACL injury he sustained last season, City would be best served by taking a cautious approach with Rodri’s return.
Manchester City begin their 25/26 season away at Molineux where they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 16. The hope is that Rodri can complete all of City’s pre-season training before that fixture. That would give him the best opportunity to be fit for the beginning of a new season. That process begins on Monday. All eyes will be on Rodri’s fitness as the hard work begins for Pep Guardiola’s side next week.
